Comfort food has always been something related to bread, don’t you think? A crusty Italian loaf smothered in butter, croutons for a salad, rolls with dinner, french toast, bread pudding and on and on and on. The staple of an American diet has been bread.
But once you decide to be on a low carb diet, standard bread is out of the question which could make anyone feel the loss of that once beloved food. No worries though, I’ve created a ton of low carb bread recipes to make you feel like you’re not missing out on anything!
When I shared my Keto Cinnamon Rolls, they went viral immediately! The texture is pretty outstanding and I can’t use the typical almond flour like most low carb bloggers because my youngest son has a tree nut allergy. So....

This show-stopping Snickers Cheesecake Cake is definitely meant for special occasions! It’s so sweet you may get a tooth-ache!
It was magical, that spilling forth of sugary sweet rich chocolate ganache and Snickers® frosting.
Yes, I said Snickers frosting. Poured on a cake. A cake with a Snickers cheesecake inside.
Sandwiched between layers of dark chocolate cake.
Then topped with whipped cream and more chocolate ganache and Snickers frosting.
It’s fabulous for so many reasons!
The first being is that… well, the beauty of a Naked Cake. You can see the fluffy whipped cream and glorious fresh fruit and sweet drizzle of a rich chocolate sauce.
The second is that is it low in processed sugar. Chocolate and fruit are the main flavor contributors, meaning I can enjoy a piece, or two, without the guilt.
One of the things on my “bucket list” is to visit the Dollywood Theme Park in Pigeon Forge Tennessee. I’ve been a fan of Dolly Parton ever since I was about 8 years old, so naturally I have to see this park at some point.
While doing a little research into places we could possibly take a road trip this summer, I looked up Dollywood online. While reading, I came across a recipe for the famous Dollywood Cinnamon Bread! I just knew I had to make some!
It turns out this recipe is very easy if you use pre-made, frozen bread dough which can be found in the freezer section at most grocery stores. Just allow the dough to come to room temperature and then rise until doubled in size which takes anywhere fro 4 to 7 hours. You could leave the dough on the counter overnight, and in the morning it will be ready. Bake some Dollywood Cinnamon Bread to go with your cup of morning coffee!
Once dough is thawed and doubled in size, just follow this easy recipe. You won’t believe how easy and deli
The reassurance of potato salad, its portability, conviviality and – depending on the cook – blank slate for creativity have been appealing to Americans since the last half of the 19th century. Immigrants and travelers to America introduced many styles, including variations of salade Nicoise (the French salad of potatoes, olives, green beans and tuna, dressed with vinaigrette), and salade Russe (cubed potatoes, peas and carrots bound with mayonnaise). German settlers brought hot potato salad, and that savory combination of warm potatoes lightly dressed with hot bacon fat and vinegar became entrenched in Pennsylvania and throughout the Midwest. This is an adaptation of a classic version that was first published in the 1931 edition of “The Joy of Cooking.”
One of my favorite pie alternatives is bundt cake. A hearty spice-filled bundt cake made from grated apples and toasted nuts, then soaked in whiskey syrup, defies the cliché of Thanksgiving dessert, yet keeps well within its harvest-time paradigm. Plus, a bundt cake, which is really just like an oversize muffin baked in a fancy pan, is easy to whip up. The booze bath helps keep it fresh, meaning you can bake it ahead and eat the leftovers for days.
"This is a slightly healthier spin on traditional fried apples. The skin is left on, and the reduced butter and sugar are offset with flavor-boosting bourbon, raisins, cinnamon, and lemon juice. I use Cameos for this recipe, as they are naturally sweet and hold their shape well, but if you're using a tarter variety, you may wish to increase the brown sugar and omit the lemon juice. Golden rum can substitute for the bourbon."
I have a serious emotional connection to southern fried apples. There is just something about them that takes me back to childhood Sunday mornings. Every Sunday my grandmother would make a fully loaded breakfast that consisted of butter grits, homemade biscuits, scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, bacon, and yes, some good ol southern fried apples!!
That sweet, buttery cinnamon aroma drifted and lingered throughout the entire house and it was heavenly. Breakfast just wasn’t the same if fried apples didn’t make it in the line up.
Living in the south all of my life, I’ve had my share of “just ok” southern fried apples. It’s easy to get fried apples wrong. Very wrong. From using water, too much brown sugar, overcooking, over spicing and so on. This southern fried apples recipe is the BEST!
The key to a good pan of southern fried apples is to keep it simple. No need to get all fancy schmancy by adding in syrups, extracts, juices, cornstarch, etc.....
Tis the time of year for pies and tarts. Autumn…mmmmm! Such good, rich flavors and pears and apples are always a big part of that. Pears and apples are a wonderful combination. They really are.
The spice combination features allspice, Vietnamese and freshly shredded ginger, with just a hint of freshly ground mulling spice.
Just a reminder…put some mulling spice in a pepper grinder and grind it fresh into anything with apple, pork and it’s delicious on scallops and fish, too. Mulling Spice is so much more than just an addition to wine or apple cider.
Oh, yes…one last thing. I threw in a handful of dried cranberries.
Caramel sauce is spectacularly good. It’s rich. It’s easy. And it’s always good to have some in the fridge, waiting for just the right moment. You know, like when the sun rises in the east. So grab a spoon. Caramel sauce is made with just a few ingredients, and this one is no different. There a couple of little twists and turns, but it’s still incredibly simple and ultimately…delicious.
A heavy pan is essential. You need to control the heat, because if the sugar burns, there’s no coming back. You have to pitch it and start over. But, you’re not going to burn the sugar, are you?
If you are making a straight up caramel sauce, omit the apple cider reduction and use water instead. Do keep the bourbon or use brandy or rum…it just adds a really nice touch.
The key to success here is to brush the Apple-Bourbon Glaze on the chops during the last few minutes on the grill, turning and brushing often to create a layered, lacquered look. Garnish the chops with grilled halves of small apples brushed with the glaze.
