A sumptuously moist cake bursting with blueberries!

This is a recipe that comes to me from Dayton, Virginia's wonderful Old Order Mennonite community. Just a neat, neat place. And this recipe is for your basic chocolate cake topped with a thick layer of chocolate-caramel frosting. I think what makes this recipe more interesting than your average chocolate cake is the addition of chocolate milk as an ingredient in the frosting.

In my years visiting Amish homes I've found that it is kind of common for an Amish homemaker to have some cake and cookies just "on hand" in case someone stops by. And usually someone does!

Hot dogs are a popular processed and convenience food in Amish kitchens. The belief that all Amish cooking is organic, locally sourced, and healthy is definitely not rooted in reality. Yes, a lot of Amish cooking is locally sourced and fresh. But I have seen plenty of harried, stretched-for-time Amish moms open a can of soup or toss some hot dogs on the grill as a time-saver.
