  • 1 cup white or brown rice, 4 to 5 cups cold water, ¼ to ½ cup of red lentils or masoor daal (you can also use moong daal which is typically used), ½ teaspoon cumin seeds, ½ teaspoon turmeric powder, ⅛ teaspoon hing or asafoetida (optional), 1 teaspoon coriander powder, ½ teaspoon cumin powder, 1 teaspoon garam masala (optional), 1 teaspoon of grated ginger, ¼ cup of chopped cilantro, 3 to 4 cups chopped spinach or any other green such as kale, 2 chopped tomatoes, three chopped carrots, 1 to 2 peeled & chopped potatoes, any other vegetable of your choice, 1 teaspoon crushed coriander seeds, 6 to 7 whole pepper corns, chopped onions (optional) & salt to taste.
