Every so often, I make a batch of burgers to freeze and have handy to just take out and cook in the oven from frozen. Actually, I have found that bean burgers tend to hold better when cooked from frozen. These are delicious! You can use any bean of your choice. I have used red kidney beans and black beans in the past. This batch was black beans. I used the formula from Plant Based Gabriel’s ‘vegan pork burgers’ but changed up the spices and added a few other ingredients. Really, once you add get the rice, quick oats and bean ratio right, you can add any spices and herbs you wish and make it your own. I find that tomato paste and miso paste ensure the burgers are moist yet allow them to hold well. Be sure to taste the dough. My fussy teen’s words, when he tasted the dough for this batch were: “ It tastes like kebab meat.”
Actually they turned out very tasty and moist and he requested them again tomorrow.
Make your own crunchy granola in minutes. I mixed this up while I was making a meal for the family. I tend to do this while the oven is on for a meal. It’s tasty and crunchy. It is also oil and salt free. No preservatives, colors or additives either. Fussy teenager approved. Have on its own, or with some plant milk. Throw on top of breakfast oats or even on a salad to add some crunch. Also can be used as a topping for a fruit crumble. Give it a go. What are you waiting for?
