The only thing cozier and more festive than warm, melty baked Brie? Warm baked Brie surrounded by rosemary-scented pull-apart bread that’s crusty on the outside and fluffy in the center. This star bread can serve as a stand-alone centerpiece, though we also love the idea of using it as a jumping-off point for a whole arrangement of snacks, like crudités, dried fruit, and dips. The dough can be mixed the day before and the bread, sans cheese, can be baked earlier in the day and reheated with the Brie tucked into the center so that it’s at the perfect temperature when your guests arrive.

With a decorative shape (known as épis de blé) that emulates sheaves of wheat, these crusty, fall-flavored loaves are the perfect centerpiece for a dinner table. Nutty sunflower seeds lend a hearty texture to the interior of the bread and coat the exterior for extra crisp and crunch. The warm, savory spices in the dough and the crust make this bread irresistible on its own yet subtle enough to accompany nearly any meal. Bake this fragrant loaf spiced with cinnamon and mastiha for good luck in the year ahead.
This Greek bread is traditionally baked for January 1st, the Greek Orthodox St. Basil's saint's day, but even in the days after January 1st, baking it is a fitting way to celebrate good things to come. Cinnamon gives the rich yet fluffy bread spicy warmth, while mastiha, a resinous spice, adds piney notes for depth.
If you've ever wanted to practice your braiding technique, here's your chance—here, with large sandwich rolls made with a delicious enriched dough! This recipe calls for shaping the rolls using a single-strand braid/twist shape, but you can also divide each piece of dough into the required number of portions to use for any braided challah style you like.

The symbolism of bread is commonly observed by Christian cultures throughout the world. During Easter, bread takes many decorative shapes and forms; one of the most beautiful is the egg- and butter-rich Paska, traditionally eaten in Eastern European countries.
Paska is often paired with "hrudka" (hur-UT-ka), a custard-like cheese; or a delicious sweetened cream cheese spread (see the recipe in "tips," below). You might also enjoy thick slices of bread sandwiching kielbasa, or your leftover Easter ham.

We've updated the classic fruit and spice stollen with an unusual (and delicious!) chocolate-hazelnut version. Infused with orange zest and filled with homemade chocolate-hazelnut filling, this lighter-textured stollen is a holiday bread that gives a nod to its roots, and at the same time starts a new (and exciting) tradition.

For those needing to avoid gluten, these crunchy crumbed fish fillets can be enjoyed by the whole family. I only coat one side as it’s quite rich with the haloumi and almonds.

This deep-gold, light-textured bread is traditionally served on the Jewish Sabbath and other holidays. The dough for this loaf is wonderfully smooth and supple, making it an ideal candidate for braiding. The simplest way to go is a three-strand braid; but feel free to try the slightly more complex four-strand braid, or even a six-strand braid, which makes a striking presentation.

Edd Kimber has crossed the flavours of a babka with the look of Swedish cinnamon buns to create these chocolate and salted pistachio babka buns.
You can make these with regular pistachios, but if you want to push them a little further it’s worth tracking down vibrant green blanched slivered pistachios from Middle-Eastern grocers.

While you may not have trouble finding good challah at your local bakery, there are some compelling reasons to bake the iconic loaf yourself. For starters, it can be made easily in any home kitchen, with any experience level, in just a few hours, with delicious results. And, with patience and practice, there's no question that you can make a challah that's better than anything you'll buy in a store.
This recipe makes two hearty loaves made with four-strand braids. You may be tempted to halve the recipe, but a double batch will make the time and effort more rewarding and worthwhile—plus, that extra loaf will get even better for French toast, stuffing, or bread pudding as it stales.
ACTIVE TIME: 90 minutes..TOTAL TIME: 6-12 hours.
Why make one challah when you can make three? The result you get when mixing a large batch of dough is actually much better than what you get when making a small batch. With a good amount of dough in the bowl, it is easier for the mixer to do its job and properly knead it. Challah freezes beautifully—you can freeze a loaf whole, or slice it and then freeze it for toast or French toast. Or have one loaf for dinner or breakfast, and give the other loaf to a friend or someone close to your heart. The offer of fresh-baked bread is a beautiful gesture that is better than any bottle of wine or store-bought hostess gift.

It's time to put your braiding skills to good use! Challah is an egg enriched loaf that's traditionally braided and makes the most beautiful presentation. Similar to brioche, the bread is slightly sweet and wonderfully soft inside. Any leftover bread makes the perfect slice for french toast.
Don't have a stand mixer? No problem! You can make this dough by hand just know that it's meant to be a sticky dough. When kneading, flour your surface generously and wet your hands slightly to keep the dough from sticking to you. Try not to add too much flour during the kneading process and use a bench scraper to help you lift and fold the dough.

These traditional holiday loaves are made in several easy steps over about 18 hours. We recommend doing steps one through four on the first day, since step four includes an eight- to ten-hour rising that, ideally, could be done overnight. Then finish the next day. You can use two buttered and floured nine-inch-diameter springform pans instead of the dove-shaped paper molds.

Many different versions of this rich bread, laced with rum syrup and drizzled with icing, are served at Easter in Polish households. It's such a tradition, and so well-loved, that there are probably as many babka recipes as there are Polish bakers! This particular recipe was inspired by one in our 1990 200th Anniversary Cookbook, which includes a wealth of recipes and information from cultures around the world. You'll notice that, despite being made with yeast, it's an easy batter bread; "no-knead" isn't as new a concept as you might think.

This overstuffed yeast loaf, filled with two kinds of chocolate, nuts, and cinnamon, is based on a traditional eastern European bread. A classic sweet bread, it's usually shaped in a twist and topped with streusel. Babka is a perennial best-seller at Jewish bakeries in many major North American cities.
This recipe makes two rather large loaves: one to keep, one to give away. If you'd like to make just a single loaf, see "tips," below.

In Sweden this tea ring is most often enjoyed at Christmas time. Think cinnamon roll in the shape of a ring. This — and many European pastries — aren't as over-the-top decadent as the typical American sticky buns, cream-filled layer cakes, and gooey fudge brownies. If you're after a classic Swedish tea ring, this is it; for a more "Americanized" version, see "tips from our bakers," below.

Kirsch-macerated raisins and sour cherries add sweetness to this traditional Austrian holiday bread, naturally leavened with sourdough starter. The subtle aroma and flavor of orange blossom water offer a hint of bitter orange peel. This recipe comes to us courtesy of Maurizio Leo, whose blog, The Perfect Loaf, examines all things sourdough.

As a traditional German fruitcake with a profound history, it's no wonder that there are as many variations of stollen as there are people who make it. This version includes a rich filling of almond paste (or marzipan), which adds to the decadence of the bread-like cake.
Stollen's dense butter and sugar coating makes it an excellent candidate for preparing ahead of the busy holiday season, wrapping, and giving to friends and family up to 2 weeks later.
