Hi, my name is Anita. I love bread baking, especially sourdough breads, cheese making and cooking from scratch.
My favorite cuisines are French and Asian.
Most recipes here are in English; some are in Dutch. If one is to your liking, let me know: I will be glad to translate.

There’s no rolling pin required for these deliciously crispy sourdough discard crackers! Simply combine discard with melted butter, salt, and your favorite seasonings or seeds and you’re ready to bake. The seasoning is up to you — we’ve found that a small amount of seasoning (try 1/2 teaspoon turmeric, 3/4 teaspoon black pepper, or 1 1/4 teaspoons smoked paprika) goes a long way.

With over 500 5-star reviews, this is our most popular “discard starter” recipe by far. I recently made these crackers for the first time, and yes, I can see what all the excitement is about.
Despite the fact that you need to haul out your rolling pin (an instrument of torture for some of you, I know), it’s really quite simple to combine starter, flour, butter, and seasonings, roll out the wonderfully pliant dough, and bake crackers. The result are snapping crisp, tangy little morsels topped with your favorite seasonings and awaiting a smear of soft cheese or a quick dip in hummus.
This isn't a recipe for any old cracker, it's a recipe for crisp and thin whole grain crackers that taste exactly like the kind you buy at the store. My recipe hinges on using the same ingredients you find written right on the box: whole grains, oil, sugar, malt syrup, and turmeric. If you don't have any affection for genuine Wheat Thins, you can get away with a substitution or two, but for those of you who want to make a worthy copy at home, it's vital to use the right ingredients. Trust me, it's worth the effort.

One thing that I have always wanted to try is sourdough crackers.
I don’t know why I’ve never tried it before.
I mean, you only have to read a few recipes to realize that it’s quite simple. You can easily make them as a side project to your ordinary baking session.
These thick crackers have a hearty flavor and crunch, thanks to the combination of whole wheat flour and toasted wheat germ. They're tender and buttery, too, with a touch of sweetness that makes them a perfect match for rich and savory accompaniments, like peanut butter or cheese.
ACTIVE TIME: About 20 minutes. TOTAL TIME: About 1 hour.
Because they incorporate cream instead of the more common butter, these homemade crackers brown more flavorfully as they bake, creating a deep, nutty, grilled cheese sort of vibe. This recipe works well with sharp yellow cheddars, like Tillamook and Cabot, but if you're looking for a change of pace, Manchego works well, too. Eat 'em out of hand, or serve with hearty soups, stews, and chilis.

Leftover sourdough starter is transformed into these elegant crackers, flavored with coriander and fennel seed, rye flour, and sparkling wine.
Crackers are the go-to option for many bakers looking to use up excess sourdough starter. At its simplest, the process is a breeze: Mix some starter, flour, and salt until you get a rough dough; roll it out, bake it, and you’ve got yourself some serviceable crackers. You don’t need to worry about kneading, proofing, or any of the countless pitfalls of baking sourdough bread. Sourdough crackers should be forgiving, and shouldn’t demand much thought.

If you like graham crackers, you'll love homemade graham crackers; their taste and texture goes a step beyond store-bought, from "Hmmm, good", to "WOW!" Crisp and light, these deep chocolate graham crackers are yummy spread with Marshmallow Fluff® and peanut butter; they also make a wonderful crust for chocolate cream pie.

Rather than using both chia and flax seeds you could use just half a cup of one. It is important to include one or the other because they are what break down and bind everything together.

A cracker recipe so simple you’ll commit it to memory.
Adapted from Anya Fernald's Home Cooked, this recipe for delicate, whole wheat-flecked crackers makes enough to feed a party, or last all week in your pantry. "The key to [their] crispiness is to roll out the dough extremely thin," the author writes. If the dough springs back at all while rolling, let it rest at room temperature for 5 minutes, then try again.
This recipe takes what cookbook authors Kate Leahy and Ara Zada learned from Armenia’s master lavash bakers and adapts it to the realities of a modern home kitchen.
The instructions that follow include options for cooking lavash on a wok, cast iron griddle, or grill. The less time the lavash spends on the heat, the more pliable it will be, and you may have to adjust your heat source at first to cook the dough evenly without burning it. As when making pancakes or crepes, your initial go at it often doesn’t come out well. In Armenia, there’s a saying attributed to the poet Paruyr Sevak: The first lavash baked in the fire is like a first love—too hot to last.

These Olive Oil, Thyme & Sea Salt Crackers, which are taken from the New York Times magazine, are the perfect balance of salty and savory and are made with a few simple, common pantry staples.
This is Sardinian flatbread or as it is translated "sheet music" bread. It is really a lot like a cracker although I know it looks much like a tortilla. It is stiff and crackly and in the hands of the Sardinians it is multipurpose. It is simple to make and my version requires no yeast. The most difficult part of the process is rolling it out but after one or two you'll get the hang of it. BTW they are usually baked twice. Meaning this is the first time and when you are ready to eat them you bake them again usually brushed with olive oil and sprinkled with rosemary.
These crackers are adapted from Jody Adams, the chef and owner of Rialto Restaurant in Cambridge, MA.
Making crackers seems daunting, which is why most people pick them up at the grocery store, but these can be whipped up by anyone who can make pie dough. All you do is work 3 ingredients by hand into a firm dough. Roll out the dough as thinly as possible (you should be able to see through it). Lay the dough on a baking stone in a 500-degree oven. Then watch it through the oven door as it puffs and warps and sets to toasty, rigid crispness. The perfect hors d'oeuvre crackers are within reach.
you might want to pair it with a cheese ball, pate, potted shrimp, rillettes, or pimento cheese. These crackers play nicely and get along with everyone, even dips.
Think of these like cheese and crackers all rolled into one snappy, tangy, toasty snack. Double the recipe and keep a log stashed in your freezer for when you need a quick dinner party appetizer or potluck dish. Just thaw, slice, and bake.
These garlic Parmesan flaxseed crackers are a great high fiber, crunchy, nutritious, and tasty snack. With just 5 ingredients, 6 simple steps, and only 15 minutes or so in the oven, you will have these crispy crackers ready in no time. They are delicious with dips, spreads, or just on their own. Try serving with olive tapenade, eggplant caponata, or hummus. Your guests at your next party will never know you've supplied them with a boost of nutrition.

These dangerously addictive little bites fueled countless 1950s and '60s bridge parties from Greenwood Mississippi, to Greenville, South Carolina, before being rescued from recipe-box oblivion by modern Southern cooks like Martha Hall Foose. And thank goodness. Magic happens when a cracker slowly sops up the fat from smoky, crisping bacon; it transforms into something more akin to piecrust. Unadorned, bacon crackers are pure pork perfection. The addition of a tine bundle of rosemary needles makes for a fancified version, while topping the "belt" of bacon with a bit of brown sugar adds a hint of sweet to the smoke.
