  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 pound ground chuck
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce, see note below
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 small white onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 5 to 6 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1½ teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic, (or 2 teaspoons garlic powder)
  • ¾ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon granulated sugar
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
