Amish Friendship Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ tsp. Instant Yeast
  • 3 cup all purpose flour
  • 3 cups white sugar
  • 3 cups milk

  • subheading: AMISH BREAD RECIPE:
  • 1 cup oil
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 large box instant (5.1 oz) vanilla pudding (or 1.5 oz sugar free instant pudding)
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • mini chocolate chips
Steps

  2. 1. In a 2 qt. glass, plastic or ceramic container, combine 1 cup flour & 1 cup sugar. Mix thoroughly or flour will lump when milk is aded. Slowly stir in 1 cup milk and test. Cover loosely and let stand until bubbly. Consider this day 1 of the 10 day cycle. Leave loosely covered at room temperature.
  3. 2. On days 2 thru 4; stir starter with a spoon. Day 5; stir in 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Days 6 thru 9; stir only.
  4. 3. Day 10; stir in 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup milk. Removed 1 cup to make your first bread, give 2 cups to friends along with this recipe, and your favorite Amish Bread recipe. Store remaining 1 cup starter in a container in the refrigerator (or freezer, or begin the 10 day process over again (beginning with step 2)
  5. subheading: AMISH BREAD RECIPE:
  6. Measure 1 cup of starter and add the AMISH BREAD ingredients. Mix well with a non-metal spoon.
  7. Grease 2 large loaf pans. Mix and additional ¼ cup sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon. Sprinkle half the sugar mixture into the greased pans. Pour batter into pans. Sprinkle remaining sugar mixture over batter. Bake at 325º for 1 hour. Cool until bread loosens from the pans evenly. Enjoy!
Notes
  • Pour (4) 1 cup starters into 1 gallon zip-lock bags. Keep one bag for yourself and give the 3 other bags to friends.
  • I love this bread, but always run out of people to give the starter too. This last time I froze them. I took one out and just let it sit for the 10 days, not adding the extra 3 cups on the 5th or 10th day, I just stirred it each day. The on the 10th day I followed the rest of the recipe and the bread turned out wonderful, no difference and I don't have to find 3 people to give a starter too.
  • To Make mini loaves bake 325º, start checking at 25 minutes, it may take up to 40 minutes
