Grandmother's Chocolate Sheet Cake

2 cups flour

2 cups sugar

1 stick butter

½ cup shortening

1 cup water

4 Tablespoons cocoa

½ cup buttermilk

2 eggs

1 tsp soda

1 tsp vanilla

1 recipe icing

note: needs ⅛ to ¼ tsp salt

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Sift together sugar and flour in a large mixing bowl.

Combine butter, shortening, water and cocoa in a medium saucepan. Bring to a rapid boil. Once it boils pour over flour mixture and stir well until combined.

Add buttermilk, eggs, soda and vanilla.

Mix well and pour into a greased 16 x 11 sheet pan. Bake 20 minutes at 400 degrees.

Start icing 5 minutes before cake is done. Pour over warm cake.
