This cake is basically a large heavy chewy cake brownie covered in fudge like boiled frosting. A chocoholics dream.

This is the basic recipe my mom used but she made it scaled up to fill a jellyroll sheet.
Depending on how you cut it which we did in about 3.5" squares giving us about 18 servings. We would eat about half then wrap the rest as single pieces into wax paper and freeze for a great treat.
For my 16th birthday she made 2 jellyroll sized pans of this one while pan was mine to eat as I wanted so I wrapped each piece and froze them and made them last a bit over 4 months.
Ingredients
  • subheading: Cake Batter:
  • ½ cup all purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 heaping Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 ½ Tbsp buttermilk
  • ¼ cup hot water out of the tap
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp vanilla
  • subheading: Frosting:
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 ½ Tbsp milk I use whipping cream but can also use buttermilk
  • 1 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ tsp vanilla
