Note: I substituted panko bread crumbs for his white bread
Ingredients

  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork (or hot pork sausage)
  • 2 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper (omit if using hot pork sausage)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ¼ cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten

  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 ounces Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • ¼ cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
