Creamy Italian Parmesan Tomato Soup with Parmesan Bread Bowls

  • 1 carton (32 oz.) vegetable or chicken broth
  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups half & half
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • subheading: For the bread bowls:
  • 1 cup + 3 tbsp. warm water
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 2½ tsp. active dry yeast
