BBQ Ribs Crock Pot to Smoker or Broiler

Servings: 2 racks of ribs (about 5 to 6 servings)

Servings: 2 racks of ribs (about 5-6 servings)
Ingredients
  • subheading: Dry Rub:
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp course salt
  • ¼ tsp ground pepper
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ tsp Chinese 5 spice (optional)
  • ½ tsp Roasted Red Pepper and Garlic or ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 2 racks baby back ribs
  •
  • subheading: Liquid ingredients:
  • 2 to 3 Tbs apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp molasses
  •
  • ½ cup Grace BBQ Jerk Sauce or your favourite BBQ sauce
Steps
  1. Remove silver skin if you like. Here is a video on how to remove. I don't usually bother unless it is real thick.
  2. In a small bowl combine the rub ingredients.
  3. Cut rack of ribs into about 4 sections with 2 or 3 ribs in each. Rub the mixture in well, on both sides of the ribs and around the edges. Put on a plate and cover with Saran wrap and refrigerate for 1 to 3 hours or longer.
  4. Lightly grease Crock pot with oil and turn to high. Spread ribs on theirs edges evenly in the crock pot. Pour cider vinegar mixed with molasses into bottom of pot being careful not to pour on top of any ribs. Cover and cook for 3 to 3½ hours.
  5. After the ribs have cooked about 3 hours and are easily poked with a fork, preheat your smoker to 450°.
  6. Remove ribs from crock pot and brush BBQ sauce all over them. Cook about 8 to 10 minutes, in the smoker (grates open) or under the broiler. Turn over and brush the other side with sauce if needed. Cook another 4 to 5 minutes until ribs are nicely browned and is just starting to char. Put the ribs in a bowl and serve.
Notes
  • Grace BBQ Jerk Sauce from Food Basics is my favorite BBQ sauce. It is in the Imported section.
  • Start smoker earlier and cook fried potatoes or asparagus etc. for 20 minutes before putting ribs on.
