Basic Italian Meringue
Ingredients

  • ½ cup water
  • 4 large egg whites, at room temperature and preferably from fresh eggs (see note)
  • ½ teaspoon cream of tartar, lemon juice from 1 lemon, or ½ lemon (see note)
