Ingredients
- 1 pie crust
- subheading: Filling:
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- 6 medium assorted apples - two types are nice
- 1 Tbs cider vinegar
- 1 Tbs butter
- subheading: Streusel Topping:
- ½ cup flour
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup quick oats or grind slightly whole oat flakes
- ¾ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- 6 Tbs cold butter cut into small pieces
Steps
- subheading: Filling:
- Core, peel and slice apples into about ¼" slices, and put in a large bowl.
- Add sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well. Add cider vinegar and toss to coat.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F.
- Flour a work surface, and roll out 1 crust and line a pie plate with crust. Pinch the edges of the crust.
- Put apple mixture in the crust. Dot top with pieces of butter and bake pie for 20 minutes.
- In a large bowl, add flour, sugar, brown sugar, quick oats, cinnamon and nutmeg. Whisk together.
- Add cold butter and work with a pastry cutter until fully incorporated.
- Remove pie from oven after 20 minutes and top with streusel mixture and return to oven at 375°F.
- Bake for about 40 to 50 minutes more (when crust is golden and filling is bubbling through in parts).
- Cool before serving.
