Ingredients

  • 2 sweet Vidalia onions
  • ½ tsp. salt - divided
  • 5 to 10 slices of American cheese
  • 3 Tbsp. unsalted butter - divided (or, use 1 Tbsp. unsalted butter and spreadable butter for the grilling portion)
  • 12 slices rye bread
