Ingredients
- subheading: Leanne and Jenny here you go:
- 1 lb ground turkey or beef OR 2 cups cooked green lentils
- Olive oil
- ⅔ cup chopped onion
- ½ cup chopped green pepper
- Chopped jalapeno* (see notes below)
- 1 cup NSA tomato sauce
- 1 to 2 dollops NSA tomato paste
- 2 Tbls brown sugar
- Worcestershire* (see notes below)
- 1 Tbls garlic powder
- 2 Tbls NSA chili powder
- 1 Tbls mustard powder
- • Saute the onions, green peppers, and jalapeno (if using) in olive oil until soft. Set aside.
- • Brown turkey/beef if using. Drain and add back to pan. (If using lentils, just add with the remaining ingredients below.)
- • Add all other ingredients (including the onions, peppers, jalapenos), and simmer on medium low for 15 minutes or so.
- note: Jalapeno - I like a lot of heat, so I use up to two whole jalapenos. They could be left out altogether if you don’t like it very spicy, or you could sub a few red pepper flakes.
- note: Worcestershire - The original recipe calls for 2 tablespoons. I buy the Target brand, so 2 tablespoons would be adding a total of 300 mg sodium. Some days I can use this full amount, other days I have to pull back on the amount to keep my sodium count in check. Use as much as you can work into your numbers.
