Traditional German Red Cabbage
Ingredients
  • 1600 g (3.5 lb.) of red cabbage
  • 1 large onion
  • 3 to 4 sour apples
  • 150 g (5.2 oz) of thick-cut bacon
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 8 juniper berries
  • 3 teaspoons of salt
  • 3 teaspoons of sugar
  • 4 tablespoons of apple vinegar
  • 125 ml (4 oz) of red wine
  • 125 ml (4 oz) of water
  • 3 tablespoons of red wine
  • 1 ½ to 2 tablespoons of Dr. Oetker Gustin OR corn starch to thicken cabbage
