  • ¾ TEASPOON FRESHLY GRATED NUTMEG
  • KOSHER SALT AND GROUND BLACK PEPPER
  • ¼ CUP PLUS 2 TABLESPOONS EXTRA-VIRGIN OLIVE OIL, DIVIDED, PLUS MORE TO SERVE
  • 1 SMALL YELLOW ONION, FINELY CHOPPED
  • 1 SMALL CARROT, PEELED AND FINELY CHOPPED
  • 1 SMALL CELERY STALK, FINELY CHOPPED
  • 2 TABLESPOONS TOMATO PASTE
  • 28 OUNCE CAN WHOLE PEELED TOMATOES, CRUSHED BY HAND
  • ½ TEASPOON WHITE SUGAR
