IP Pasta - Box Mac-n-Cheese
Processed Kraft Mac-n-Cheese?  In a pinch, you betcha!
Ingredients
  • ½ stick of butter
  • 3 boxes Kraft Mac and Cheese
  • 4 cups water
Steps
  1. Add liner pot to Instant Pot
  2. Saute ½ stick of butter
  3. Add dry pasta
  4. Add water
  5. Set to manual for 3 minutes (4 minutes was too long)
  6. When pressure cooking is complete, either use NPR or carefully do a quick release (pasta tends to foam so cover the pressure release valve with a paper towel and turn it to release very slowly.
  7. Add additional butter (if desired) and milk, along with powdered cheese pack, according to package directions.
Notes
  • Pasta and water... I've had good luck using 1 cup for every 4 ounces of pasta.  However, 24 oz of the tiny macaroni pasta from the Kraft Mac-n-Cheese box with 6 cups of water at 4 minutes wasn't quite right.  The pasta was overcooked (reduce cooking time to 3 minutes next time?) and was actually browning along the edges and bottom so the water either absorbed too quickly and/or the pressure release was too slow, causing the pasta to coo in the hot liner..  For starter, this was probably too much pasta (although it fit in the pot fine).  Next time, I will try 3 boxes max (or maybe 2?) and reduce cooking time to 3 minutes.
  • How much pasta is in those boxes?
  • Two 7.25 ounce boxes of Kraft Mac and Cheese contained 12 oz of dry pasta
  • One family size 14.5 contained 12 ounces of dried pasta.
