  • 3 slices ginger
  • 3 scallions (white parts only, cut into ½-inch pieces)
  • 1 tablespoon Sichuan peppercorns
  • 3 tablespoons spicy bean sauce (AKA spicy bean paste)
  • 1½ cups low sodium chicken stock (or homemade chicken and/or pork bone stock)
  • 1½ teaspoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic (minced)
  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes
  • 1 tablespoon cilantro (chopped)
  • ½ teaspoon ground Sichuan peppercorns
