Falafel
Air fried falafel
Ingredients
  • 1 cup dried chickpeas
  • ½ cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 3 to 4 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 to 3 tsp chickpea flour
  • 2 tsp ground coriander
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • Salt to taste
Steps
  1. 1.Soak the chickpeas overnight. Use double the amount of water. They soak up a lot.
  2. Drain and rinse and set aside.
  3. 2. In a blender or food processor, add garlic, cilantro and onion. Blend well.
  4. 3. Add drained chickpeas, cumin, coriander, chickpea flour and salt if using. Pulse until you have a well blended mixture with no large pieces of chickpeas. Don’t go too far or you’ll have a paste (like hummus).
  5. 4. Make small balls using a spoon and the palm of your hand, or a small cookie scoop. I used a 1” cookie scoop.
  6. 5.Place parchment with holes on your air fryer basket. (I get this from Amazon)
  7. Add the balls to the basket, not touching each other.
  8. 6. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees (F)
  9. Air fry for about 12 to 15 minutes. They will get golden and crunchy on the outside and the inside should be soft, but cooked.
Notes
  • I served them with a sauce made with cashew yogurt, lemon juice, cucumbers and garlic and a little tahini.
