Holly Jolly Santa Cookies

These easy, rolly polly Santa cookies start with a sugar cookie dough that’s heavy on the butter and vanilla. Half the dough is died red using food coloring. The santas are made out of 5 dough balls. Once they are baked, the bard, hat, and hands are decorated on in a whipped cream cheese frosting. The nose is a mini red M&M.

2 sticks (1 cup) salted butter, at room temperature

½ cup granulated sugar

1 large egg, at room temperature

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon kosher salt

1 to 2 teaspoons red food coloring

mini chocolate chips (for eyes and buttons)

mini holiday M + M s (for Santa's nose)
