Servings: 6

Servings: 6
Ingredients
  • 6 apples, peeled and cored
  •
  • subheading: DOUGH:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ⅔ cup shortening
  • ½ cup milk
  •
  • subheading: SAUCE:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 3 T butter
Steps
  1. Dough:  In large bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt.  Cut in shortening.  Pour in milk all at once and form a dough.  Refrigerate for an hour.
  2. On a floured surface roll dough ¼ inch thick into a rectangle.  Cut into squares.  (This recipe makes 6 dumplings so cut into 6 or 7 inch squares.  This time I divided my dough into 6 and rolled them out individually--that worked good too.)
  3. Put apple on each square.  Put butter in the hole of the apple and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
  4. Wrap each apple in a square of dough.
  5. Sauce:  Boil sugar, water and cinnamon.  Remove from heat and stir in butter.
  6. Pour sauce over the dumplings.
  7. Bake in 375 degree oven for 1 hour.
