I Made the Slow Cooker Spiced Oj Apple Cider I Saw On Reddit and It Came Out Great!
Ingredients
  • 1 gallon Apple Cider (it's your main ingredient so get a good quality one)
  • 4 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 2 Juicing Oranges (your looking for juice/flavor so pick a few nice juicing oranges)
  • 10 Whole Cloves
  • 1 Orange (a nice one, sliced for garnish)
  • 1 Granny Smith Apple (sliced into wedges for garnish)
  • Cinnamon Sugar 3 Tbl raw sugar add to 1 Tbl cinnamon, mix (for garnish, nice but you don't need it)
Steps
  1. Pour the Apple Cider in your slow cooker, slice the juicing oranges into thick slices and using the tip of a paring knife (being careful) slice and twist a few small holes (makes it easier to put in the cloves) into the skin of each orange slice, then insert the cloves into the holes and set aside until all the slices have cloves.
  2. Place the orange slices and the cinnamon sticks into the apple cider (at this point your done but while I was making this I was also making homemade Applesauce so I added the cores and some peeled Granny Smith apple skins to the slow cooker for a little extra flavor), set the timer for 7 hours on low then add 1 more hour on high.
  3. When done pour Apple Cider through a sieve separating out all the fruit and spices and let Cider cool. (I poured mine back into the Gallon Jug and used that for transport) You can serve this cold, at room temp or reheated, just shake the jug to remix before you serve it.
  4. I used jelly jars for the kids and highball glasses for the adults, I rimmed the glasses with the cinnamon sugar mix and added a slice of apple and one of orange and being careful poured the hot cider into the glasses and served them that way. It came out nice, sweet but with a tang you could taste from the oj and cloves plus it smelled great reheating it.
  5. Thanks and enjoy!
