  • 8 cups unsalted or low-sodium beef stock
  • ¾ cup coarsely chopped onion

  • 2 (14.5-ounce) cans diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1 ½ cups fresh or frozen green beans cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 ½ cups diced potatoes
  • 1 cup thinly sliced carrots
  • ¾ cup chopped celery
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar, optional
