Vermont Apple Cider Doughnuts

  • 1-¼ teaspoons table salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1-½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • ½ cup low-fat buttermilk
  • ⅓ cup boiled apple cider
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Canola or safflower oil (for frying)
  • Cinnamon sugar (1-½ cups sugar mixed with 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon) or confectioners’ sugar
