  • Welcome back to What’s For Tea :) Tonight for tea For tea tonight we are having an absolute Scottish Classic which is Stovies! If you’ve never heard of Stovies before, it’s a Scottish favourite combining good old meat, potatoes and other vegetables.

  • Recipes and ingredients vary widely, and traditionally leftovers would have been used for this dish and will ALWAYS contain potatoes and onions! And also a meat element like sausages, stewed beef, corned beef, minced beef, mutton, left over roast beef…any meat you have really!

  • Traditional Scottish Stovies are absolutely delicious! This really is Comfort food at it's best. It's a simple one-pot dish, made this time in the slow cooker…or crock pot :) Perfect served with traditional Scottish oatcakes.

  • What I used (serves 4 to 5) I used a 3.5 litre Crockpot
  •  
  • 2 lbs (around 1 kg) Potatoes - peeled, washed and cut into quarters or even thickly sliced.
  • 1 lb (450g) Beef steak mince
  • ½ lb (225g) Braising steak - cubed
  • Half a can (170g/6oz) Corned beef - cut into large cubes
  • 1 pint/560ml Beef stock
  • 2 Medium carrots - peeled & diced
  • 1 Medium onion- peeled & thinly sliced
  • ½ of a swede - peeled & diced
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • A couple of tablespoons of seasoned flour
  • A little oil for frying
