Sheila's (Mom's) Homemade BBQ Sauce for Chicken Legs, Chicken Thighs and Chicken Wings (Isaacs-Martinez Family)
This recipe for BBQ sauce just came to me when I didn't have a bottle of BBQ sauce for chicken legs. To me this version of homemade BBQ sauce tastes awesome. Can also be used as a topping (gravy) for mashed potatoes. This will be my go-to BBQ sauce instead of store-bought BBQ sauce from now on.

Servings: Makes 8 to 10 servings

Servings: Makes 8 to 10 servings
Ingredients
  • subheading: Chicken:
  • 8 to 10 chicken legs (chicken thighs or chicken wings)
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 2½ tablespoons Knorr Chicken Flavor Bouillon
  • 1½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • subheading: BBQ Sauce:
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons yellow mustard, to taste
  • 1¾ Weber's Kick' N Chicken seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon McCormick's Grill Mates Montreal Chicken seasoning
  • Cinnamon, to sprinkle
Steps
  1. subheading: BBQ Sauce:
  2. While chicken is boiling on stove; in a small mixing bowl, stir together the ketchup, honey, spicy brown mustard, yellow mustard, Kick' N Chicken seasoning, and Grill Mates Montreal Chicken seasoning.
  3. When mixed brush it on the chicken legs and bake.
  4. subheading: Chicken:
  5. Add chicken to an 8 quart stock pot.
  6. Add in bay leaves, Knorr Chicken Flavor Bouillon and garlic powder.
  7. Add water to cover the chicken about 6 quarts. Make sure water comes above the chicken.
  8. Boil the chicken legs until done.
  9. When chicken is cooked through, remove the chicken legs from the broth to a foiled lined baking pan.
  10. Preheat the oven to 350F.
  11. Brush the BBQ sauce on the chicken legs until covered, then pour the rest around the chicken legs to be used as a dip for the chicken legs or a topping (gravy) for mashed potatoes. Sprinkle cinnamon on, for those that don't like their BBQ sauce too spicy (like my sister).
  12. Put baking pan in the oven and bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and serve. Makes 8 to 10 servings.
Notes
  • Can be used as a dip for chicken legs, chicken thighs or chicken wings or as a topping (gravy) for mashed potatoes.
  • Tastes great on mashed potatoes, chicken legs, chicken thighs or chicken wings.
  • Can be doubled if needed.
