Marinated Shrimp
This is my Aunt Mary Louise Haley's recipe. My uncle was a commander in the navy and was gone a lot in the Submarines. The wives left waiting did a cookbook and this is one of the recipes. This was during WWII.
Ingredients
  • subheading: Ingredients:
  • 2 & ½ lbs. cooked, cleaned medium shrimp
  • 2 cups sliced small white onions
  • 7 bay leaves
  • 1 & ¼ cups salad oil
  • ¾ cup white vinegar
  • 1 & ½ teaspoons salt
  • 2 & 112 teaspoons celery seed
  • 2 & ½ tablespoons capers and juice
  • 2 to 3 dashes tabasco
Steps
  1. Alternate shrimp, onions and
  2. bay leaves in a covered bowl.
  3. Combine remaining ingredients,
  4. mix well and pour over shrimp
  5. and onion. Cover and store in
  6. refrigerator for at least 24 hours.
  7. Will keep one week in
  8. refrigerator. Just provide
  9. cocktail toothpicks and soda
  10. crackers and the shrimp will
  11. disappear in no time.
  12. subheading: Note:
  13. Cook shrimp in boiling water with ½
  14. cup celery tops, 3 & ½
  15. teaspoons salt and ¼ cup

  17. minutes. Drain, cool and clean.
  18. Recipe can be doubled.
