This is my Aunt Mary Louise Haley's recipe. My uncle was a commander in the navy and was gone a lot in the Submarines. The wives left waiting did a cookbook and this is one of the recipes. This was during WWII.
Ingredients
- subheading: Ingredients:
- 2 & ½ lbs. cooked, cleaned medium shrimp
- 2 cups sliced small white onions
- 7 bay leaves
- 1 & ¼ cups salad oil
- ¾ cup white vinegar
- 1 & ½ teaspoons salt
- 2 & 112 teaspoons celery seed
- 2 & ½ tablespoons capers and juice
- 2 to 3 dashes tabasco
Steps
- Alternate shrimp, onions and
- bay leaves in a covered bowl.
- Combine remaining ingredients,
- mix well and pour over shrimp
- and onion. Cover and store in
- refrigerator for at least 24 hours.
- Will keep one week in
- refrigerator. Just provide
- cocktail toothpicks and soda
- crackers and the shrimp will
- disappear in no time.
- subheading: Note:
- Cook shrimp in boiling water with ½
- cup celery tops, 3 & ½
- teaspoons salt and ¼ cup
- pickling spices. Cook about 10
- minutes. Drain, cool and clean.
- Recipe can be doubled.
