  • 6 cups reduced-sodium vegetable broth
  • 1 cup pearl barley
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground pepper
  • 2 cups frozen cut green beans
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 tablespoon red-wine vinegar
  • Chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley and basil for garnish
