Cajun Ninja Meat Pies
Ingredients
  • For Pastry
  • 2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Stick of Salted Butter
  • 1 (8oz) Block of Cream Cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • ½ Teaspoon of Salt
  • ½ Teaspoon of Cayenne
  •
  • For Stuffing
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Stick of Celery
  • 1 Small Bell Pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon of Olive Oil
  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • ½ Teaspoon of Salt
  • ½ Teaspoon of Onion Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon of Creole Seasoning
  • 1 (10oz) Can of Cream of Mushroom Soup with Roasted Garlic
  • Vegetable Oil for Frying
Steps
  1. Start out by getting a pot heated over medium heat.
  2. Chop the onion, bell pepper, and celery.
  3. Add olive oil to hot pot, then drop pound of beef. As soon as the beef is brown, drain the excess oil in a strainer.
  4. Leave ground beef in strainer, add another small amount of olive oil to the pot, drop the chopped vegetables in, and let sauté for 15 minutes.
  5. Now add the ground beef back to the pot.
  6. Add the Cream of Mushroom. Feel free to add a small amount of water to the can, so that you can get any excess soup.
  7. Add the salt, onion powder, and creole seasoning.
  8. Lower heat to simmer and cover.
  9. Simmer for 1 hour stirring every 15 minutes.
  10. At this time you can get started on the pastry.
  11. Mix all ingredients for pastry together in a bowl with your hands or mixer. Form into a ball, wrap tight with cling wrap, then let chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  12. Once your stuffing has been simmering for at least an hour, move the pot to the freezer, and let chill for 30 minutes.
  13. At this time you can get a frying pan with about an inch and a half of vegetable oil heated over med/high heat.
  14. After 30 minutes, remove your stuffing and pastry from your fridge and freezer.
  15. Dust a clean counter top with flour, and roll your pastry to about ⅛ inch thickness.
  16. Cut out circles that are roughly 6 inches or less in width.
  17. Place a desired spoonful of stuffing in the center of the cut out, fold over gently pressing out air, and seal edges by pressing down firmly with a fork.
  18. Feel free to test your oil by dropping a small piece of pastry in there.
  19. Once you have made all of your pies, you can begin frying. Fry on one side until you start to see golden color form on the edges, then flip. When pies have a good all around golden color, remove from oil and set aside on tray layered with paper towels.
