Fried Okra

Ingredients
  • 1 pound okra
  • ½ egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup corn meal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
Steps
  1. Wash, trim, and slice okra into ¼ pieces.
  2. Prepare buttermilk wash by mixing egg, water, and buttermilk together.
  3. Prepare seasoned flour mix by combing flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper.
  4. Heat oil to 350° in deep fryer or frying pan.
  5. Place okra slices in buttermilk wash. Lift okra out with slotted spoon and drain well. Place in seasoned flour, coating throughly. Take out and place on wire rack and knock off excess flour. Drop in batches into hot oil until golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes.
