  • ¾ cup malt extract, divided
  • 2 tablespoons molasses, or black treacle
  • 50 grams (¼ cup) dark brown sugar
  • 100 grams (¾ cup) prunes coarsely chopped
  • 50 grams (½ cup) dried figs, coarsely chopped
  • ½ cup dried mixed fruit
  • 120 grams (1 cup) all-purpose flour and 120 grams (1 cup) whole-wheat flour, mixed
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • Butter, optional, for serving
