My Mother's Peasant Bread
Ingredients

  • Lukewarm Water: 2 cups (454 g) - To achieve the right temperature, mix 1.5 cups of cold water with 0.5 cup of boiling water. This warm environment is ideal for activating the yeast.
  • Sugar: 2 teaspoons (8 g) - Sugar acts as food for the yeast, helping it ferment and make the bread rise.
  • Instant Yeast: 2 teaspoons (8 g) - Instant yeast is preferred for its quick-acting properties. A recommended brand is SAF Instant Yeast. (Note: If you're using a different brand or type of yeast, the measurements and rising times might vary. Refer to the notes section for more details.)
  • Butter: Approximately 2 tablespoons, at room temperature - This will be used to grease the baking vessels, ensuring the bread doesn't stick and has a lovely, buttery crust.
