Sugar-Crusted Apple Cobbler
Ingredients
  • 4 medium-to-large baking apples, peeled, cored, and sliced ¼" thick; about 6 cups (650g)
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons (43g) boiled cider*
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 8 tablespoons (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (198g) granulated sugar, divided
  • ½ cup (113g) buttermilk or plain yogurt
  • 1 cup (120g) King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon King Arthur Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons (14g to 28g) water
  • note: Substitute 2 tablespoons (28g) lemon juice in place of the boiled cider in a pinch. The flavor will be less apple-forward.
