IP Pinto Beans

Servings: 6 to 8

Servings: 6-8
Ingredients
  • Water
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Cumin
  • S & P
  • YOU might want to add Cayenne Pepper or any other spicy item
  • ½ Pkg. Bacon or whole if doing a double pot ( or Ham )
  • Small bag Pinto Beans ( or Large) Takes the same amount of time regardless of amount. Don’t fill past the top FILL LINE
Steps
  1. Go through the beans removing any that look bad or stones. Rinse well and drain.
  2. Place beans into cooker pot add water so that beans are covered ( put your finger in the water and just the tip touching the top of beans -measure to the middle knuckle of index finger. That’s about 2 “ of water above the beans)
  3. Add all of your spices, place the bacon on top ( it can be frozen)
  4. Close the lid
  5. Make sure the valve is on SEAL  not vent . Pressure the Manual cook button and then the minutes set for 40 minutes (this will be on high pressure)and then push the start button.
  6. That’s it, when the pot comes up to pressure it will start the count down from 30 minutes.
  7. When is beeps that it is done, DO NOTHING because you are going to let it come down in pressure on its own ( approximately 15 minutes). The little silver button (valve) inside the pressure knob will drop down. Press the CANCEL button to turn off. Use a pot holder or tongs and turn the pressure knob to vent just to be sure all steam is out. Then move the lid to open and your beans should be done.
  8. IF FOR ANY REASON they aren’t done enough for your liking- just add a about a ½ C water and close it back up and rest for another 7 to 10 minutes and do a QUICK RELEASE by using a pot holder and tongs and move the valve to venting. Once the valve drops, open.
  9. This won’t take long to come back up to pressure because it already so hot.
