Servings: Recipe makes enough dough for top and bottom of a pie or two bottom crusts.
Ingredients
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cool water
Steps
  1. Mix together an egg with a tablespoon of water and brush on crust before baking one pie is completely assembled.   This will make the crust shine and brown nicely.
  2. Cut butter into cubes and place in freeze for a few minutes to cool down a bit.  Add salt and flour together and stir to mix salt into flour.  Then mix butter and flour till pebbly.  Add water a bot at a time and mix just till the texture of the dough changes and when you pinch it, it will form a ball and stay together. (Depending on the flour and the weather, you might not need all the water or you might need more -- you don't want a wet dough so be careful!   It is best to add the water in batches so you won't end up a dough that is too wet and sticky).
  3. Bake at 375 F - time depends on recipe for type of pie you are making.
