Family recipe from Mom Kozak- loved by kids
Mom Kozak used a 4 part water/1 part vinegar recipe

Servings: ½ bushel of cucumbers = 19 to 20 quart jars

Servings: 1/2 bushel of cucumbers = 19 - 20 quart jars
Ingredients
  • Brine for 6 quarts
  •  
  • 8½ cups water
  • 6½ cups white vinegar
  • ¼ cup pickling salt
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 1 tbsp pickling spice
  • Fresh garlic as desired for each jar (3 to 4 cloves per jar)
  • Fresh dill top and bottom of each jar
  • Optional pinch alum in each jar
Steps
  1. Clean jars
  2. Garlic and dill on bottom and top
  3. Pack cucumbers cut or whole
  4. Boil brine
  5. Pour brine into jars leaving ½ inch head space on top.
  6. Place lids on loosely
  7. Place in preheat oven 275 °F
  8. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes depending on size of jar. Pickles loose bright green colour.
  9. Remove from oven, tighten lid.
  10. When cool wipe down jars before storing.
  11. Let set about 6 weeks prior to opening.
  12. Enjoy
Notes
  • May slices cucumbers for sandwiches and jar.
  • 2023: bought #2's ½ bushel $40.
