1 tbsp olive oil , (or ¼ cup water for sauteing)

1 medium onion , finely chopped

3 cloves garlic , minced

2 stalks celery , chopped

2 green onions , chopped, white & green parts

2 carrots , cut in circles

2 sprigs fresh thyme , or 1 teaspoon dried

1 tsp parsley flakes

1 tsp dried basil

1 lb green cabbage , roughly chopped

1 can diced tomaroes

2 quarts water , optionally with 2 bouillon cubes, or use vegetable broth

½ tsp paprika

¼ tsp Cayenne pepper , (optional)

1 tbsp nutritional yeast flakes

1 tsp sea salt , omit if using vegetable bouillon cubes

1 bay leaf
