Sweet & Spicy
Ingredients
  • subheading: CHERRY BOMB BBQ SAUCE:
  • This recipe makes for an amazing sauce that is both sweet and spicy. It’s got a pretty pronounced kick, so if you’re not a fan of really spicy BBQ sauces, feel free to reduce the amount of cayenne or chipotle chile used in this recipe.
  • subheading: Here’s what you need:
  • 2 cups of pitted fresh or frozen cherries (thawed)
  • 2 tbsp salted butter
  • ½ Vidalia onion diced
  • 4 cloves of garlic minced
  • ⅔ cup packed dark brown sugar
  • ½ cup of orange juice
  • 1 cup of apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup of ketchup
  • ⅓ cup of honey
  • 4 tbsp of molasses
  • 1 ½ cups of tomato sauce
  • ½ chipotle chile (diced) with 1 tsp adobo sauce
  • ½ tsp ancho chili powder
  • ⅛ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp ground mustard
  • 1 tsp liquid smoke
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • S&P to taste
  • subheading: Here’s how you make it:
  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add in the onions and sauté until they are translucent, then add in the garlic and cook until it is fragrant.
  • Next, add the cherries, orange juice, apple cider vinegar, and cherries to the pan. Bring to a boil and cook until the cherries begin to breakdown. Once they are mostly broken down, add in the remaining ingredients and whisk until fully incorporated. Reduce the heat and let simmer until the sauce thickens.
  • Once the sauce reaches the level of thickness you want, pour into a blender and puree until it is smooth.
  • Set aside and let cool
