This rich chocolate frosting offers a nice balance of flavor thanks to the sour cream. It’s delicious on both chocolate and vanilla cakes or cupcakes, but the possibilities don’t end there. Brownies, cookies, whoopie pies — all of these are worthy candidates for this smooth, creamy, slightly tangy frosting.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup (170g) semisweet chocolate, wafers or chopped*
  • 6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ teaspoons King Arthur Pure Vanilla Extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3 ½ cups (396g) confectioners' sugar
  • ¼ cup (21g) unsweetened cocoa, natural preferred
  • ¾ cup (170g) sour cream, cold
