(1) How I Make Homemade Sourdough Bread
Ingredients
  • When you read about sourdough bread, you'll see it's actually a healthier form of bread. The fermentation helps it to be easier to digest. And an added benefit is that it'll last on the counter a week or longer.
  • If you need a starter, just comment with your email and i'll send you a starter recipe. I understand it takes a while to make but if you don't have someone to share a starter with you, it'll be so worth it!  If you are close to me, i'll be happy to share my 21 yr old starter with you:)
  • subheading: RECIPE:
  • Mix ½ cup sugar, 3 tbsp potato flakes, and 1 cup warm water
  • Add mixture to starter and leave at room temperature 8 to 12 hours
  •
  • Take 1 cup starter and return the rest to the refrigerator.
  • Mix 1 cup starter, 1 ½ cups warm water, 1 ½ tsp salt, ½ cup oil, 6 cups bread flour.
  • Grease large bowl and put dough inside.
  • Lightly oil top of the dough
  • Cover with towel, cheesecloth, was paper etc and let rise about 12hours
  •
  • Punch down, turn it out, knead 8 to 10times on floured surface
  •
  • Divide and shape into loaves and/or rolls
  •
  • Let rise 4 to 6hours
  •
  • Bake at 300 for about 50minutes depending on your oven and how brown you want the top of your bread. Golden brown is nice to aim for.
  •
  • I have no tried to substitute other sugars. This sugar is usually gone in the fermentation process. I have used avocado oil and olive oils. I use Himalayan pink salt. I have used both potato flour and potato flakes but potato flakes works longer in the long run with consistency.  I have used Einkorn flour successfully but wasn't crazy about the flavor.
  •
  • Keep your starter refrigerated when not in use. It should last at least 6months without feeding. You'll know it's still alive when you feed it and  hear or see bubbles or activity. It should have a nice mildly sour smell but not foul.
  •
  • I love to toast a slice of my sourdough with a little real butter to go with my fresh eggs every morning for bfast. I've also used it to make sandwiches. The best bread I've ever ate!
  •
  • This recipe makes 3 medium loaves or two large. I love making the three....it's an opportunity to share a loaf with someone you love as a nice surprise.... One year, I made loaves of bread for everyone for Christmas:)
  •
  • Tune in next week to see other ways to use your starter......
  •
  • Have a great week yall!  Stay safe out there. May God bless you.

  • John 6:35 And Jesus said until them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
