Date and Nut Cake (The Best)

Love cooking, baking and creating delicious food. I am Celiac so most foods are gluten free, or I have modified them to make them gluten free.

Moist- would like more dates,
For layer cake 1.5 times recipe bake in layer cake pan.
Grandma faw served with date sauce in middle of layers and chocolate icing on top.

Dates, chopped 1 cup

Boiling water 1 ¼ cup

Baking soda 1 tsp

Sugar 1 cup

Butter, softened ½ cup

Egg 1

Vanilla extract 1 tsp

Flour 1 ½ cup

Baking powder 1 tsp

Salt ½ teaspoon

Chopped walnuts (or use cashew nuts if walnuts are not available) ½ cup

subheading: For Icing:

Light brown sugar 5 Tbsp

Heavy cream 5 Tbsp

Butter 2 tablespoons

Slivered almonds (almond flakes) ½ to 1 cup
