Cornish Beef Pasties

  • 1 lb (450g) skirt steak or chuck steak, diced
  • 1 medium swede (rutabaga), peeled and diced

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
  • ½ cup (110g) lard or shortening
  • 1 egg, beaten, for glazing
  • Cold water
