  • ½ cup Crisco Shortening
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2 cups Dixie Crystal extra fine granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 - ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • In a mixing bowl, combine shortening , butter, and sugar and cream together on low speed until mixed thoroughly. Add eggs one at a time mixing after each egg. In a separate bowl, prepare the dry ingredients. Put the sifter
  • a bowl, add flour, baking powder and salt, and sift together. Measure out 1 cup of flour at a time and mix into wet ingredients. Add half a cup of the milk and mix, the repeat with dry and wet. Mix well, scraping down the sides of the bowl. Add the flavoring and mix again.

Flip the cake out of the pan using a plate, and then flip back over. You can cut the two layers in half and make 4 layers if you like Let layers cool a few minutes before icing, You want them warm, but not hot.
