Servings: Makes double pie crust
Ingredients
  • subheading: Mix together:
  • 5 tbl ice water
  • 1 tbl white cider vinegar
  • 1 egg
  •  
  • Then use about 5 tbl of the mixture above
  •  
  • 2 c flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ c. shortening
  • ½ c unsalted butter, cut up
  • 3, 4 or 5 tbl. of the vinegar/egg/water mixture
Steps
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together ice water, vinegar and egg.
  2. In a med. bowl or in Cuisinart, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Mix well.
  3. Cut in shortening and butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle with water mixture, 1 tb. at a time, until all i smoistened and dough cleans the sides of the bowl.
  5. Gather into a ball.
  6. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least an hour or overnight.
