My mom used to make this in the 1960s/1970s. I've made it from then until the present. To be honest, it's really more like "Italian Pie", given the seasonings used. There is a "Cheeseburger Pie" recipe on the Pillsbury website that has ketchup, pickle relish, etc. that is probably more "cheeseburgery", but the recipe I share here was in our local newspaper back in the 1960s, and I've kept it as written and as named.
Ingredients
  • 1 Can Crescent Rolls
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 6 oz can tomato paste
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 T sugar
  • 1 T diced onion
  • 1 to 2 C shredded Mozzarella cheese
Steps
  1. Piece together Crescent Rolls to form a crust in an 8 to 9" pie pan. I prefer using a glass pie pan.
  2. Press all the seams together so there are no leaks.
  3. Brown the ground beef. Drain.
  4. Return the browned beef to the skillet.
  5. Add remaining ingredients EXCEPT the Mozzarella cheese.
  6. Mix thoroughly.
  7. Put into the pie crust that you made and top with the shredded cheese.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Let sit for five minutes. Serve.
