Instant Pot Spaghetti, with Ground Beef or Meatballs

Ingredients
  • subheading: With Meatballs:
  • 1 lb. meatballs (homemade or thawed, but frozen meatballs will work too.)

  • 1 Pound Lean Ground Beef
  •  
  • subheading: Remaining ingredients if using 32 oz. pasta sauce:
  • 32 oz. pasta sauce
  • 16 oz. uncooked spaghetti noodles
  • 5 cups water (or chicken broth)
  •

  • 24 oz. pasta sauce
  • 12 oz. uncooked spaghetti noodles
  • 3 cups water (or chicken broth)
  •  
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon EACH Salt, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Italian Seasoning
  • Parmesan cheese to taste (optional)
Steps
  1. subheading: With Meatballs:
  2. Set pot to Saute mode, high.   Wait till display shows "Hot" then add 1 tsp Olive Oil.
  3. Add thawed or fresh meatballs in the Instant Pot in one layer.   Saute until cooked on all sides.   If using frozen meatballs, just place them in the pot and cook as best as possible.
  4. Add a small qty of water or broth and deglaze the pot with a wooden spoon making sure to lift up all brown bits off the bottom of the pot; then add remaining water or broth.   If using frozen meatballs, just add liquid.
  5. Add the spices and stir ingredients to mix well.
  6. subheading: With Ground Beef:
  7. Set the Instant Pot to saute' and add the ground beef.  Add the salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasonings.  Cook the meat and seasonings, breaking the meat up until it's completely browned.  Turn the Instant Pot off. Drain any excess grease from meat if necessary.
  8. Add the water or broth and deglaze the pot with a wooden spoon making sure to lift up all brown bits off the bottom of the pot.
  9. subheading: Remaining steps:
  10. Break the spaghetti noodles in half (or thirds for a smaller pot) and arrange them over the meatballs in a crisscross, pick-up-stix game like fashion.   Try to NOT clump spaghetti noodles together.
  11. Drizzle 1 tbsp olive oil over spaghetti.   Pour the pasta sauce over the noodles, making sure spaghetti noodles are completely covered.   DO NOT STIR.
  12. Cover and set the Instant Pot to manual.  Set the timer to 12 minutes (go as low as 6 for firmer noodles), High pressure.
  13. Quick release the pressure and carefully open the lid.   Stir the pot using a spaghetti server fork.   Let sit for at least 5 minutes.
  14. Serve and enjoy!
