  • 24 oz (700-gram) bottle of tomato sauce (puree or passata)
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons each of dried basil and oregano
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ to ½ teaspoon sugar (optional)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • fresh basil or parsley chopped to garnish
